Whether your hair is looking limp or it's just fine, there's a number of ways to cheat the flat hair look by using the correct product combination.
Or like many, you may just be using the wrong products for your hair type, can give a flat & lack lustre look to your hair.
And with so many hair volumising products on the market it's hard to know what's a winner or a flop. So here's my How-To guide to bigger & better hair days for the finer haired folk...
Step 1. THE RIGHT OR WRONG SHAMPOO
Shampoo and conditioner type is a very big deal! Using the right shampoo & conditioner for fine hair will determine how much bounce, shine and life is created each time you wash it. My favourite volumising shampoo & conditioner range right now is the Australian owned Davroe Volume Senses Shampoo and Conditioner. 100% vegan, sulphate (another big importance) and paraben free. This means that without sulphate it doesn't lather up as much as the other shampoos with sulphate, however it also doesn't strip your hair colour. It lathers the perfect amount to cleanse and the conditioner gives just enough moisture without weighing the hair down. Made with all natural extracts the scent is gorgeously herbal and fresh.
After a week of using it, your hair will definitely have more lift and thickness to it.
Scary memories of our mothers in the 80s flash into our minds when we think of hair mousse. However the right mousse still remains to be the best prep product for fine hair! One of favourites is the Redken Guts 10 Volumising Spray Foam because not only does it give the illusion of double the hair thickness but it also gives a brilliant grip to the hair to hold any style all day. Once you've washed and towel dried your hair, section your hair as you would when you blow dry. Before drying each section, work in the mousse from the roots down to the ends. Repeat for every section.
For that extra inch of volume, add the best hair powder (like dry hair shampoo but stronger) around Bumble and Bumble Pret a Powder.
This matte textured powder gives a grip to the hair which allows you to manipulate the style to be big and bold! The also looks like it's multiplied in amount from the tiny fibres within the powder. Best way to apply this is in sections, lightly tapping the product into the roots and then massaging it into the hair with your fingers. Also great applied on the end of the hair to give extra dimension and hold.
With fine hair it's important to stay clear of heavy, over lacquered looking sprays as they will look twice as visible in thin hair, and also ruin the look by looking too 'done.'
The Redken Quick Tease hair spray gives instant volume, thickness and hold without looking overworked. To apply, shake the can well and spray either at the roots (not too close) or across the whole head for a final finish. Also great after curling the hair to spray into the waves to give extra body and hold.
